Nimble And Quick: 3 Cars From The '80s That Changed The Game

About Me
Don't Let A Flat Tire Stop You

Thanks for heading over to my site. I'm Kerry Webster. I have the worst wanderlust. When I had more free time, I put all of my belongings in storage, ended the lease with my apartment and hit the road. I would stay at hotels here and there, but most of my time was spent in my car. I quickly discovered the importance of auto maintenance, especially the maintenance of my tires. When your tires and wheels are not functioning properly, it is simply not safe to be on the road. So I decided to record much of what I have learned about tires and wheels on my blog.

Nimble And Quick: 3 Cars From The '80s That Changed The Game

Before the '80s, American sports cars were all big V8 beasts, but the decade brought us changes in the domestic market, as well as many popular imports. Today, some of these cars are recognizable because of the advancements they made in auto technology. There were cars like the Shelby IROC and Buick Grand National that are just as popular today as they were 30 years ago. Here are some of the nimble and quick cars of the 80s that you want to have parked in your garage:

1. 1988 Honda Prelude with All-wheel Steering for Optimal Handling

The Honda Prelude is a car that often gets overlooked, but it made history in the 80s when the All-wheel drive design hit the market. Today, these cars are becoming rarer, but the 1988 Honda Prelude is still a car that has a great design and is powered by a small 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine. The handling of the car around turns is excellent and with a few modifications, you can get a lot of power out of its mediocre 4-cylinder engine. You will want to put a good set of tires on these cars to get the most traction and grip when handling turns.

2. The Mean Blacked Out Look of the 1987 Buick GNX

The Buick GNX is one of the most amazing cars of the 1980s. GM took all the name plates and badges off the car and blacked it out with black rims, tinted windows, and an all-black paint job. It is also one of the fastest cars in its class for the 1980s era; with a twin-turbo V6 engine that gives it plenty of power. Today, the Buick GNX is still popular in car circles and may be a little difficult to find.

3. The Dodge Daytona Shelby Z That Had a Lot of Power in A Small Package

Another car to consider for game changers of the 80s is the Dodge Daytona Shelby IROC-Z. While Chevrolet and Ford were still in a pony competition, Dodge went another direction with the Daytona, which the IROC models had a turbo charged 2.2-liter engine that gave this little car that could more than 170hp. Some of the models in the early 90s also have V6 engines.

These are some of the cars from the 80s that you will want to have parked in your garage. Contact a Pirelli race tires dealer to get the rubber you need for your quick sports car restoration project.
